Red Room, Kennedy Administration

This photograph is of the Red Room as it was during the John F. Kennedy administration in April 1962. The walls are decorated with several paintings including portraits of President Woodrow Wilson, Alexander Hamilton, and the landscape, Cannonading on the Potomac, October, 1861. The Red Room is located on the State Floor of the Executive Mansion. The room was first decorated with red fabrics during the Polk administration in 1845. The space is often filled with furnishings in the American Empire or Grecian style. The parlor has been used for intimate receptions, teas, and meetings.
